Membership fees 2026

Members pay an annual subscription on a sliding scale that is based on their grant expenditure in the previous financial year.

The membership year runs from January to December. New members joining mid-year pay a proportion of the full year's rate, calculated in whole months. Please email us at [email protected] if you have any difficulty calculating your membership fee. Please exclude administrative costs and any expenditure other than on grants.

Below is a recap of the criteria for our three membership categories:

Full member
Open to UK charities that have grant-making as a principal function, and that make grants from income of which at least 30% is derived from assured* sources.

Associate member
Open to grant-making organisations that don’t meet the conditions of FULL membership because grant-making is not a principal function, their income is not assured*, or they are based outside the UK.

Affiliate member
A discretionary category for organisations that administer or act as a trustee for several grant-making trusts or foundations.

If you are a grant-making charity based outside the UK, please email [email protected] for information for non-UK members.
Subscriptions are fixed according to the level of grants that an organisation is responsible for overseeing, excluding the organisation’s own administration/support costs.
The audited accounts used should be the most recently available ones. If two or more organisations are administered jointly, we would expect the subscription to reflect the combined grants figure.
ACF welcomes contributions over and above the fees stated, in order to help with our work in promoting the effectiveness of grant-making trusts.
